Breezeblock Park by Willy Russell (1975)
A poignant comedy from the author of Educating Rita, Blood Brothers and Shirley Valentine
Step right into the midst of a Seventies Scouse Christmas....
Breezeblock Park tells the story of a typical Liverpool family, together on Christmas Eve among the tinsel and fairy lights to celebrate the festivities. However, beneath the surface of their Christmas cheer are jealousies, quarrels... and a secret. As the booze begins to flow, tongues loosen and a certain piece of news threatens to tear the family apart.
The play is classic Willy Russell – crackling with humour and wit to uplift your spirits with his amazing ear for dialogue - underpinned by poignant longing and repression, and freighted with tension as simmering resentments erupt at last...
The original production in 1974, with a cast including Julie Walters, was a sell-out success. Director Jane Wilton has assembled a cracking cast for Quads for this immersive and hilarious production, so give yourself a Christmas treat by booking your seats.
